On May 27, 2008, while Pyroman was watching Mystery Science Theater 3000, he got a brilliant idea: to bring the MST3K riffing style to the Halo world.
Being a big fan, he wanted it to be very similar to the original show. He thought up ideas of how to make it work including using, tiny action figures, a theater backdrop, and a little green screen. Instead of that, he took the easy route and just drew up seats, characters, and a logo. After working some magic on his PC, it came together perfectly.
The first episode was a huge success and gathered quite a lot of attention, which gave Pyroman the encouragement to continue making more episodes.
On June 20, 2008, mrsmiley of HaloBabies.net saw MCT3K while browsing videos on his lunch at work. Being a huge fan of MST3K himself, he instantly saw the brilliance of the Master Chief Theater concept. Not being one to pass up a good opportunity (Halo Babies wouldn’t exist otherwise!), he quickly messaged Pyroman on Machinima.com offering some assistance. Pyroman admitted that changing his own voice was getting old, and welcomed the fresh ideas mrsmiley had to offer.
Thus, Pyrosmile Productions was created.
mrsmiley immediately started work on purchasing a domain and building a website. Pyroman didn’t have the web-building knowledge, but brought some excellent graphic design experience to the table. 5 weeks later, on July 25, 2008, Pyrosmile.org was launched to the public.
Today, Pyroman and mrsmiley continue to release a new episode of MCT3K every Friday, and are planning on expanding the series to other games in the near future.
